Thanks Stan!
I think the length of the episodes is about right. Sometimes a little longer, sometimes a little shorter. Never boring!
Thanks for the input Charles, always appreciated.
Thanks for covering South African wine! Chenin Blanc is still the most planted white cultivar!
They make great Chenin! Thanks for watching.
The T-Shirt game is on point every time
You need to look at the Whitehaven, Sauvignon Blanc please.
Whitehaven is not our most popular however, it does sell better than some. Also, it's just over twenty bucks which put it out of the category I was looking to review. I agree that it is a very good Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. Thanks for the comment.
Of the "popular" Sauvignon Blancs, I like Kim Crawford. I haven't tried the Josh Cellars. I'll have to give it a try.
Thanks for the comment and yes, you should give Josh a try, especially at the price point. So different from NZ Sauv Blancs.
Really like this series. I can get most of these wines in MT!
Love it! Good to hear from you Kristie.
"Hedging toward Cantaloupe" sounds like a good name for a movie.😊
Or a book!
Love Zins especially coming from Northern California ! Thanks, Stan.
It’s glad you enjoyed the episode. That Cline Zin rocked!
Last year, Costco in AZ had a special case…The Twelve Zins of Christmas. I think they were all from Lodi.
We like Pinot Grigio with linguine and clams. But…it can be tough to find one that pairs well. Find that often Pinot Grigios can be too “thin”.
I hope you try the Santa Marina, it has some texture on the palate which really appeals to me.
In America, there is no legal definition of the terms "ancient vines", "old vines or, "reserve". These terms are used for marketing and nothing more.
Absolutely true! It’s a shame we don’t have some regulations on that. However, I do think it’s safe to say that Cline most likely has some older vines.
Do you think Josh wines allure will fade after the big social media boom or fade back out?
Also I believe there is no actual designation for "old vine" in the u.s. You can pretty much say that on any descriptor. Sort of like " reserve" wine.
I’m not sure, it’s certainly a strong brand. Not my go-to wine, but I get why people gravitate to it.
You are right about no regulation on those terms. Do many regulations on other things. It would be nice to see some guidelines on this in the future.
Thanks for the shout out! The videos…and the wine events…or talking to you or Scott…introduces me to wines with which I have little or no experience. When most of us walk into a wine department, our brains go numb from overchoice. A wine department manager once told me that way too much wine is sold based on eye catching labels rather than the contents of the bottle. You help ease the brain fog!
Thanks, David; we try our best. Thanks for being such a great supporter and customer.
Always love to hear a Pinot list. Ive never been a super big fan but ill try these out!
I think you'll especially like the Estancia. However they were all good for different reasons. I'm glad you enjoyed the episode.
Carmenere- Marques De Casa Concha !! Amazing for $20
Thanks for the tip, I’ll look into that one!
This is a good review. If you can get on the list at Quilceda, it's the best addition to a wine collect: CVR is $60, that's a great wine! The Palengat, I actually treasure. Ive drank 4 bottles since 2018, it's priceier:$155 this year, but its amazing. If they let me buy 3 cases I would (this year I secured 6). If youre not sure if wine is worth this much it may not be to you. My recommendation; buy a couple of high price and low price cabs and throw in a Duckhorn. Open them all w a couple of friends and compare.
Great comment, thanks for the idea. I have a limited budget, but will spend money on a great wine, especially to cellar for a few years. I liked the CVR because of its affordability. At least compared to the siblings.
Got me curious….do you have white port in the store? Am a big fan of Vermentino!
Picked up 2 bottles of the Susumaniello…will get more next time I am in Kins!
Good juice!
Did you Decant the Bordeaux? 2016 still a baby and would probably need a good 2 hours for it to open up! 2016 vintage can age forever. California blends are a different story, “manufactured” literally to be drunk young. I personally love Bordeaux as you can definitely enjoy the wine at different stages as it changes and gets better in the glass!!
I agree that decanting is important, especially with European wines like Bordeaux. I will shoot an episode on the importance of decanting and mention your comment. Thank you.
Stan, As the importer of Oltreme’ Susumaniello, needless to say I am proud and pleased that you are such a fan of the wine and that you have shared it with your now over a thousand followers. Bob Stevens
It was nice to meet you Bob! I love this wine and will continue to promote it at the store. Thanks for bringing it to the states. Cheers! Stan
My man looks pumped
I was super pumped to review the wines!
Chenin Blanc
Absolutely correct. Nice work. Thanks for watching and the comment. Cheers!
I really enjoyed your guest. Both his style and knowledge. Can’t wait to try the Caladoc.
I agree, Keith is great. It should land around June. I tried it 2 days later and it was better. You know what that means.
Fascinating episode Stan. Very good guest, and very informative. Love a good Cremant or Cava. Cheers!
Keith and I are good friends. He’s so interesting and knowledgeable. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Would love to try the Lubanzi Cinsault based on your review, didn't see it in your store, let us know if you get some.
Hi Kris, The wine is in my South African section. Ask Scott or I when you get to the store.
We found the same regional trends…but with aperitivos and digestivos that were only available locally.
I won the red blend at a music trivia game & I know nothing about wine 😄 but after watching this I'm sure I'll enjoy it, for now its just decoration at home😄 question though, should I chill the bottle first before tasting?
I wouldn’t suggest that, it would steal a bit of the fruit. This wine is great at around 60-65 degrees.
Stan, I am with you on Merlot. If your poured it blind for people at a party - wine drinkers of all different preferences - it is probably the red that would get the most "" comments from the room over many other varietals!
Yes, it’s our job to lead them to this great juice. Thanks Keith. I can’t wait to get our episode out there Mr. Johnsen!
Funny story about the "59N" brand name...the winery founder/owner claimed to have had 59 lovers before finally meeting and marrying his wife...so it stands for "59 Ninas" - and she allowed him to use the idea! Now that's love and trust!
That’s a great story Keith, thanks for sharing!
Loveee me some pgv
It's a great blend, I agree!
i love the chilean wines
Some great values as well! Thanks for the comment.
You always put out solid videos my friend.
Thank you!
Stan's blind tastings are always fun to watch. Interesting to note that the higher priced wines scored better on taste, which is not always the case.
I really do like it when the less expensive wines come out on top. Blind tastings keep it fair in that regard. Thanks for the comment Kris.
Always enjoy the blind tasting!
Thanks David!
Just had the caravan the other night for the first time and I agree it’s a lovely wine
I know! Thanks for the comment.
I'll start by saying that I have rarely enjoyed a French or Italian wine outside of the country of origin. Exception is French wine in Germany. For some reason, it is good there. Second note, I have been to some small wineries in California and Washington run by old style Europeans. Those wines were very good, but needed to age. One winery did not even sell their wines until they had been bottled eight years. I kept that one another eight and it was excellent. The results do not surprise me that much. I've had other high end Washington wines they were selling that at the time of purchase, they said should age another five years. Good advice, and it was very good after that time. I'm not surprised by the poor showing of the French wine. I just don't think they export their best. Same with the Italians. If you want good wines from those countries, you just have to get on an airplane. Or pay more than I am willing :)
Interesting insights, thanks. I will say that the Bordeaux came out of its shell a bit the next day.
@@StanReitanStanTheWineMan I take that as a sign that the bottle just wants another year in the cellar.
Some years back, I found myself in North Western Washington for a couple of years. That was the time that my wife and I discovered the world of wine, and learned a lot about it, mostly due to a wine shop down the street from where we were living at the time and the wine club that led us to. There are so many little wineries all over the state. Such a great place to explore the world of wine. Columbia Valley is a really great place to explore. Glad to see someone highlighting this area and the wines you can find. We have been to Dunham Cellers. They had nice wines as I remember. Good to see they are still producing. Walla Walla is a great area to visit if you have not already. I like to know the wines in a blend, but I understand when they don't. They want to keep their blend tasting pretty much the same year to year, so need to modify it each year. Plus the label considerations you mentioned. Talking with vintners in small wineries, the label process is very time consuming. Changing one takes a good bit of time and money.
Thanks for the comment, you are spot on. We live in a special place for wine production. I feel lucky.
Next Red Blend: 40% Syrah, 40% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon Tattoo Girl: Merlot, Mourvedre, and Cabernet Sauvignon Pomum: 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Cabernet Franc, 16% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot. Dunham Three Legged: Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah Blend
Thank you!
What a great interview. Makes me really sorry I missed the tasting!
She was awesome!
Love the Luke for the price.
Yes, Luke wines are great! Their Merlot is especially good.
$34 sounds a lot for wine by our standards here in the UK Stan. So I am pleased you gave it an A and it was special. Have a good Easter!🐥🐣🐥
If I could send you a bottle I would. However, if memory serves me well, you prefer white wines. Happy Easter, have a good time with Susie!
The slurping is kinda like when you smack when you chew on something succulent, like some sweet and sour candy. Helps it taste better and brings out the flavors.
Agreed.
😅love chemical guys best stuff for your car !
The best!
My son just told me about this channel last night. Enjoying the Washington wine month episodes. I’ll have to catch up on some past episodes. Cheers!
I'm glad to have you on board, thanks for watching and I'm glad you are enjoying the content.
Like the idea of an under $20 Merlot episode. Also like the addition of the wine id in the description. Always look forward to the next episode especially when we are gone from the island!
Thanks, David, I plan on putting the wines in the description from now on. If I miss now and then I apologize.
Did you do Airfield at one of the Mullis events? We have several bottles in our cellar. Great with marinated flank or hanger steaks.
It was one of the Zoom events.
you should also list the wines in each show down in the video details
I think that's a great idea, I will try to implement that.
Cool drinks 🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻. Delicious 😋😋😋😋😋 yummy 😊
